Rain moving across the olive-covered Gargano hills

Vico del Gargano · Puglia, Italy

A small farm.
A long story.

Villa Fontanella is our family place in the hills outside Vico del Gargano—olive terraces, old stone, changing weather and trees that have been here for centuries.

Rooted here

The trees came first.

Around two hundred olive trees grow across the property. Many are hundreds of years old, shaped by dry summers, steep ground and generations of care.

We look after the grove in small batches and harvest by hand and with light mechanical help. The olives are pressed locally while they are fresh.

Harvest changes everything.

Family, friends and local workers move from tree to tree over nets spread across the terraces. The work is physical, noisy and fast because the olives need to reach the mill quickly.

We follow the oil closely.

Fresh oil is tasted, measured and stored carefully before it reaches a bottle or tin. Our 2026 oil measured 0.3% acidity — far below the 0.8% maximum for extra-virgin olive oil.

Beyond the harvest

The farm is more than olive oil.

There are herbs, fruit trees, olive wood, animals passing through, meals outside and fires when the weather turns. That everyday life is what we want the oil and salt to carry with them.
